Hastelloy Wire Mesh

Hastelloy Wire Mesh (also known as Hastelloy mesh or Hastelloy mesh screen) is a high-performance nickel-based alloy wire mesh primarily composed of nickel, molybdenum, and chromium. It is widely regarded as one of the most corrosion-resistant metal mesh materials available.Designed for extreme service conditions, Hastelloy wire mesh performs reliably in environments involving strong corrosion, high temperatures, and high pressures. Compared with stainless steel and conventional nickel alloys, it offers superior resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.Hastelloy wire mesh maintains excellent corrosion resistance in acidic, oxidizing, saline, and other aggressive chemical environments. Due to its outstanding durability and long service life, it is widely used in chemical processing, petrochemical filtration, pharmaceutical manufacturing, oil and gas systems, and other demanding industrial applications where reliability is critical.

Hastelloy wire mesh is available in a wide range of alloy grades, including C-276, C-22, Hastelloy X, Hastelloy B,and C series. It can be manufactured in different weave types and customized configurations to meet demanding requirements for corrosion resistance, high-temperature performance, and precision filtration across various industrial applications.

Most Common Hastelloy Wire Mesh Grades

Hastelloy C-276: is a high-performance nickel-based alloy offering excellent all-round corrosion resistance to aggressive media such as hydrochloric, sulfuric, phosphoric and hydrofluoric acids, as well as wet chlorine and hypochlorite solutions, with strong resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking (SCC), pitting and crevice corrosion and a PREN value of about 55. It operates reliably from –196 °C to 1040 °C (up to 1150 °C for short periods), maintains superior corrosion resistance in the as-welded condition, and features typical mechanical properties of tensile strength ≥758 MPa, yield strength ≥358 MPa, elongation ≥40% and hardness around 90 HRB, making it easy to fabricate and weld for use in chemical processing, flue gas desulfurization, marine engineering, pulp bleaching and nuclear fuel reprocessing applications.

Hastelloy C-22: is an optimized nickel-based alloy in the C-series, featuring higher chromium and lower molybdenum and tungsten contents than C-276, which provides superior corrosion resistance in oxidizing environments. It offers excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion cracking (SCC), and performs exceptionally well in mixed oxidizing and reducing acid media. The alloy exhibits outstanding weldability, with minimal carbide precipitation in the heat-affected zone and weld corrosion resistance close to that of the base metal. Suitable for service temperatures from –196 °C to 1040 °C, Hastelloy C-22 combines good high-temperature strength and toughness, making it widely used in waste incineration systems, pharmaceutical strong acid reactors, sulfuric acid regeneration units, seawater desalination equipment and pollution control applications.

Hastelloy X:is a nickel–chromium–iron–molybdenum alloy specifically designed for high-temperature service, offering excellent oxidation resistance, thermal fatigue resistance and high-temperature strength. It is suitable for long-term operation at temperatures up to 815 °C and can withstand short-term exposure up to 1150 °C. The alloy features good fabricability and weldability, making it suitable for complex, high-temperature structural components. Its corrosion resistance is primarily focused on high-temperature gas environments, while its resistance to strong acids and alkalis at room temperature is lower than that of the C-series alloys. As a result, Hastelloy X is widely used in aero-engine combustion chambers, gas turbine components, rocket engine parts and high-temperature tubes for industrial furnaces.

Hastelloy B:is a nickel–molybdenum alloy series specifically designed for strong reducing environments, offering exceptional resistance to hydrochloric acid across all concentrations, temperatures and operating conditions, including boiling liquid and hydrogen chloride gas. The Hastelloy B series, represented by B-2 and B-3, is specially designed for strong reducing media.Hastelloy B-2 (UNS N10665) contains almost no chromium and provides excellent corrosion resistance to reducing acids such as hydrochloric and sulfuric acids, but is not suitable for strong oxidizing media. Hastelloy B-3 (UNS N10675) features optimized composition with reduced carbon and silicon, delivering improved thermal stability, enhanced resistance to cracking and intergranular corrosion, and more stable long-term performance, including continuous service in 50% sulfuric acid at 120 °C. Due to sensitivity to oxidizing impurities, prolonged exposure to oxidizing environments should be avoided. Typical applications include hydrochloric acid recovery units, coal chemical equipment for high-temperature HCl service, hydrometallurgical leaching tanks and phosphoric acid production evaporators.
