Duplex 2205 Stainless Steel Wire Mesh

Duplex 2205 stainless steel wire mesh is manufactured from duplex stainless steel alloy UNS S32205 / S31803 (EN 1.4462). It features a balanced dual-phase microstructure of approximately 50% austenite and 50% ferrite, providing an excellent combination of high mechanical strength and superior corrosion resistance.

Compared with conventional 304 and 316 stainless steel wire mesh, Duplex 2205 offers nearly twice the strength and significantly improved resistance to chloride-induced corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and pitting. This makes it a cost-effective solution for demanding industrial environments where higher performance than 316 is required.

Duplex 2205 wire mesh is produced through weaving or welding processes and is widely used in applications involving seawater, chemical processing, oil and gas, filtration, and structural reinforcement. It is especially suitable for corrosive but not extreme environments, offering an optimal balance between performance, durability, and cost.

Specifications of Duplex 2205 stainless steel wire mesh

Chemical Composition (Typical)

The alloy primarily consists of chromium (approximately 22–23%), nickel (4.5–6.5%), and molybdenum (3.0–3.5%), with nitrogen addition (0.14–0.20%) to enhance mechanical strength and pitting corrosion resistance.

Wire Diameter

Available wire diameter ranges from 0.025 mm to 2.2 mm, depending on mesh count and application requirements.Custom wire diameters are available upon request.

Mesh Count / Opening

Mesh count options typically range from 1 mesh to 400 mesh, covering coarse screening to fine filtration applications.Aperture size can be customized from micron-level openings to several millimeters based on filtration or separation requirements.

Weave Type

Standard weave patterns include plain weave, twill weave, Dutch weave, and twilled Dutch weave.Special weave structures can be supplied according to specific filtration or mechanical performance needs.Plain weave offers uniform openings and general-purpose use, twill weave supports higher mesh counts, while Dutch and twilled Dutch weaves are ideal for fine and ultra-fine filtration applications.

Mesh Width and Length

Standard roll widths include 1.0 m, 1.2 m, and 1.5 m, with customized widths available up to 2.0 m or more.

Typical roll length is 30 m, while cut-to-size sheets or special lengths are available upon request.

Service Temperature

Recommended for continuous service at moderate temperatures. For long-term applications, operating temperatures are generally advised to remain below approximately 300°C to maintain optimal mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.

Surface Finish

Supplied in standard industrial finish.Optional surface treatments such as pickling, passivation, or polishing are available upon request.

Supply Form

Available in rolls or cut sheets.Further fabrication such as cutting, forming, welding, or conversion into filter elements, cylinders, and screens can be provided.

Key Advantages of Duplex 2205 stainless steel wire mesh

Excellent Corrosion Resistance

Duplex 2205 offers outstanding resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and chloride stress corrosion cracking, making it ideal for marine, chemical, and high-chloride environments.

High Mechanical Strength

Its yield strength is approximately twice that of 316 stainless steel, allowing thinner wire diameters while maintaining high load-bearing capacity.

Long Service Life

The material maintains stable performance even in harsh operating conditions, reducing downtime and replacement costs.

Versatile Fabrication Options

Available in various wire diameters, mesh counts, and weave patterns, suitable for filtration, separation, and protection applications.

Applications of Duplex 2205 stainless steel wire mesh

Oil and Gas Industry

Duplex 2205 stainless steel wire mesh is widely used in oil and gas production and processing due to its high strength and excellent resistance to chloride-induced corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. It is commonly applied in filtration systems, sand control screens, and protective mesh components.

Chemical and Petrochemical Industry

In chemical and petrochemical processing, Duplex 2205 wire mesh is used for filtration, separation, and screening in corrosive environments involving acids, alkalis, and chloride-containing solutions. It offers longer service life compared with 316 stainless steel.

Marine and Seawater Applications

Duplex 2205 stainless steel wire mesh is highly suitable for seawater filtration, desalination systems, and offshore structures due to its strong resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in marine environments.

Industrial Filtration and Separation

Duplex 2205 wire mesh is commonly used in liquid and gas filtration systems where both mechanical strength and corrosion resistance are required. It maintains dimensional stability under high pressure and flow conditions.

Architecture and Structural Applications

With its high strength and good corrosion resistance, Duplex 2205 stainless steel wire mesh is used in architectural facades, safety barriers, railing infill panels, and structural reinforcement where durability and aesthetics are required.

Food and Pharmaceutical Equipment

Duplex 2205 stainless steel wire mesh can be used in food and pharmaceutical processing equipment where higher mechanical strength and corrosion resistance are needed, provided that hygiene and surface finish requirements are met.
