Advantages And Disadvantages Of Different Stainless Steel Materials
201 stainless steel offers the lowest cost and high performance, making it a common choice for projects with limited budgets. It has high strength and hardness, suitable for structural or large-area decorative mesh. Its disadvantages include low nickel content, moderate corrosion resistance, and a tendency to lose luster or develop spots in outdoor or humid environments. It is unsuitable for harsh environments such as high salt spray and high humidity. It is suitable for interior decoration, dry environments, and budget-sensitive decorative projects.
304 stainless steel offers the most balanced overall performance and is the most widely used material for decorative mesh. It has good corrosion resistance, processing performance, and weldability. It can be used stably in most indoor and outdoor environments. Its corrosion resistance may be insufficient in coastal areas or strong acid/alkali environments. It is suitable for mid-to-high-end indoor and outdoor decoration, commercial spaces, curtain walls, and ceilings.
316 stainless steel contains molybdenum (Mo), resulting in significantly stronger corrosion resistance than 304, with excellent resistance to salt spray and chloride corrosion. It is suitable for harsh environments such as beaches, swimming pools, and chemical plants. It has the highest cost, and if the project itself has a good environment, it may not need to use this material, thus reducing its cost-effectiveness. It is suitable for long-term exposure environments such as seaside buildings, outdoor curtain walls, swimming pool areas, and high-end commercial spaces.
